The 2018 Asian Evaluation Week, hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Independent Evaluation, was held from September 10-14 in Chengu, People's Republic of China. The theme of the 2018 AEW is "Making Evaluation Work at the Country Level" which recognizes that evaluation is increasingly regarded by countries as critical for public policy both from accountability and learning perspectives. Juha I Uitto, Director of the Independent Evaluation Office of the GEF, was a panelist on a discussion about data and evidence: creating a strong foundation for developmental policy and effective program implementation (session 24). Participants learned why strong statistical capacity is critical to effective evaluation, and how to strengthen the connections between the two in order to build effective evaluation systems that draw from and inform policy implementation.
