Frequently asked questions
The IEO conducts evaluations at multiple levels — from individual projects to global strategies — to assess performance, learning, and impact across the GEF portfolio. Its main types of evaluations include:
High-level, strategic evaluations that examine institutional issues and cross-cutting themes.
Project- and program-level evaluations that assess relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.
Annual Performance Reports (APRs) that synthesize portfolio-wide results each year, drawing on IEO validation of terminal evaluations submitted by GEF Agencies to ensure the consistency and quality of project ratings.
The IEO has a Data & Ratings page with an interactive dashboard and downloadable datasets covering all rated projects as of December 2024. These contain project performance metrics, lessons learned, and other evaluation statistics.
