The 9th GEF Biennial International Waters Conference (IWC9) was held in Marrakesh, Morocco, from November 5–8, 2018. The conference facilitated cross-sectoral learning, knowledge exchange, and discussion on emerging issues in transboundary water management.

Participants represented 84 active GEF International Waters projects, 80 countries, GEF Agencies, beneficiary countries, NGOs, transboundary management institutions, UN Agencies, and the private sector.

Discussions focused on lessons and experiences from projects addressing shared river basins, lakes, groundwater systems, and Large Marine Ecosystems, while reflecting on progress and future directions for GEF International Waters programming.
