Independent evaluation helps ensure that the GEF remains accountable for results while learning from experience.
The GEF Evaluation Policy provides the framework for independent evaluation across the partnership. Building on the 2019 Evaluation Policy, it supports accountability and learning through the work of the GEF Independent Evaluation Office (IEO).
The policy defines the purpose of evaluation, establishes key evaluation principles and criteria, and sets out safeguards for independence.
It also recognizes both summative and formative evaluation functions, introduces coherence as an evaluation criterion, and includes provisions for the ethical and transparent use of artificial intelligence in evaluation.
