On Wednesday, 18 August 2021 at 13:45 GMT (9:45 EDT), GEF IEO Director Juha Uitto delivered a keynote address on Geographical Approaches to Evaluating Global Environmental Programs in the Age of Sustainability for the 34th International Geographical Congress. In his address, he will use cases from the GEF IEO.

The event's main theme "Geography: Bridging the Continents" focus on key topics such as globalization vs localization, climate change, migration and conflicts, earth and disasters, Anthropocene, and more.

The sixth book following and building on a successful IDEAS Global Assembly (Prague 2019), this volume brings highly interesting perspectives on trajectories towards supporting transformation aimed at solving the global crises of our times. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the enormous challenges humanity is facing. It has been facilitated by other crises as climate change, biodiversity loss, economic exploitation, and increased inequity and inequality.

The GEF Independent Evaluation Office, the Environmental Law Institute and the World Bank hosted a webinar on Lessons from an Evaluation of the GEF's Interventions in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations. The event was part of the gLOCAL Evaluation Week 2021.

The Independent Evaluation Office of the GEF is a sponsor of the 2021 Canadian Evaluation Society conference scheduled from May 9 – 14 with workshops starting April 30. The conference theme is centered on Evaluation Utilization: Achieving Our Potential. The IEO is sponsoring 10 participants to the conference from Latin America, Africa, and Asia. A virtual booth where users can ask questions to the office will also be available to participants of the conference.
