The Global Environment Facility (GEF) addresses global environmental issues while supporting national sustainable development initiatives. It does so through a partnership involving 176-member countries, 10 Agencies, recipient countries, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector. In such a large partnership, a special challenge is posed in adequately monitoring and evaluating the achievements of the GEF, considering the activities of all partners in a consistent and coherent manner. The GEF Monitoring and Evaluation Policy aims to address that challenge.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Policy of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) establishes the principles of monitoring and evaluation in all activities funded by the GEF. It describes minimum standards that need to be applied at the project level, and the roles and tasks of all partners in the network of GEF Agencies and organizations.
